KIEV/MOSCOW, Oct. 13 — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Ukraine supports the energy ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump, while Russia reported progress in talks with Washington on diesel supplies.
Zelensky said Ukraine reserved the right to retaliate if Russia failed to observe the truce. He added that Kyiv had refrained from attacking Russian oil refineries and was prepared to continue if Moscow reciprocated.
The Ukrainian leader also reported Russian strikes on a gas production facility and a petrol station overnight.
Trump announced Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an energy ceasefire, although Moscow had not confirmed the arrangement, according to Xinhua.
Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said Russian and U.S. energy officials and companies were discussing diesel supplies. Moscow had partially lifted restrictions on diesel exports following the agreement, he said.
Novak said Russia could export 3 million to 3.5 million tons of diesel monthly by the end of 2026, potentially helping address supply pressures linked to Strait of Hormuz disruptions and reduced global refining capacity.
He added that exports would not affect domestic supplies, which he described as sufficient.
The developments come amid rising energy prices, a growing concern for Trump ahead of U.S. midterm elections.
