MOSCOW, Sept. 21 (Xinhua): Russia’s ruling United Russia party won 57.83 percent of the vote in the election for the 9th State Duma, according to preliminary results released Monday by the Central Election Commission (CEC).
CEC Chairperson Ella Pamfilova said 95.18 percent of ballots had been counted. United Russia was followed by the Communist Party of the Russian Federation with 13.81 percent and the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia with 8.98 percent.
New People received 7.96 percent, while A Just Russia secured 4.96 percent, according to the CEC.
Voter turnout reached 59.32 percent during the election held from Friday to Sunday, compared with 51.72 percent in the 2021 election.
The State Duma is Russia’s permanent lower house of parliament and has 450 seats. Half are allocated through proportional representation based on party lists, while the remaining 225 are elected in single-member constituencies.
Ten political parties participated in the election.
Pamfilova said the final results are expected to be announced on Friday.
