CHICAGO, Sept. 25 — The United States took a narrow lead over the International team after the opening day of the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Illinois.
The US team finished the first day with 3½ points, while the International side collected 2½ points across six matches.
The competition began Thursday and continues through Sunday, with fourball, foursomes and singles matches scheduled during the four-day event.
The Presidents Cup features a United States team against an International team representing players from outside Europe. The tournament is being played at Medinah Country Club from Sept. 24 to 27.
Friday’s program includes five foursomes matches, following Thursday’s five fourball matches and one additional match.
The United States holds a 13-1-1 record in the event’s history, while the International team’s only victory came in 1998. A tied 15-15 score would allow the US team to retain the Cup.
The competition concludes Sunday with 12 singles matches.
