MIRPUR ( AJK): September 23: US-based people of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday welcomed and thanked the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir for the Joint Communiqué issued after its meeting of Tuesday September 22, 2026 in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In a statement issued and released to the media in New York and Mirpur-AJK simultaneously on behalf of the people of Jammu and Kashmir Wednesday night Raja Muzaffar, former acting Chairman of JKLF (Yasin Malik) and Chairman of the Peace Committee on Kashmir at the Dallas Peace & Justice Center and Director Board of Kashmir Empowerment Hub USA, said the communiqué has given international dignity to a wound that is lived every day across both sides of the LoC in the internationally recognised disputed Himalayan region, says a message reaching and released to the media here Wednesday night.
“Across every part of our homeland—the Valley, Jammu, Ladakh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan—there is unrest,” Muzaffar said. “Families live with fear. Young people grow up under uncertainty. Political prisoners remain behind bars. A people still wait for the promise the world once made to them. This is not a distant file. This is the daily life of Kashmir.”
He thanked the Contact Group for placing that life before the world, and especially for raising the plight of Kashmiri political prisoners, including Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah, and Asiya Andrabi.
“Their continued detention, the denial of bail, and the suffering of thousands of others is a wound that no communiqué alone can heal,” he said. “But your words have given that wound a place of honour on the international record.”
Muzaffar expressed gratitude to the governments of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Niger for reaffirming the unfettered right of the people of Kashmir to self-determination.
He noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia holds a rare position of trust, enjoying cordial relations with both India and Pakistan. That standing, he said, can strengthen the path of mediation already offered by President Trump.
“A mediator respected in both capitals can open a door that statements alone cannot open,” Muzaffar said. “Saudi leadership, if invited to this role, can give that offer moral weight, regional confidence, and a path that does not lead back to war.”
On behalf of the people of Kashmir, he urged the Government of Pakistan to place three proposals before the OIC:
Raja Muzaffar, also Chairman, Peace Committee on Kashmir, Dallas Peace & Justice Center, Director Board, Kashmir Empowerment Hub USA, stated that these three proposals include:
1. Recognition of the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, in accordance with its declaration of 8 October 1947, as the provisional true representative government of the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir.
2. Creation of a berth for the people of Kashmir by granting observer status in the OIC to the Government of Azad Kashmir as recognized by the Government of Pakistan.
3. Appointment of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia as mediator for a sincere dialogue among India, Pakistan, and the people of Kashmir—in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people and the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and in harmony with the mediation offered by President Trump.
“The people of Kashmir do not ask for another statement,” Muzaffar said adding “They ask for a door to be opened. They ask that their voice not be spoken about, but seated at the table. They ask that a trusted friend of both nations help bring this long night to a just dawn.”
