US Urges Travelers to Reconsider Saudi Arabia Trips Amid Threat

RIYADH, Sept. 16 — The United States has urged travelers to reconsider trips to Saudi Arabia, citing risks from Iranian drone and missile attacks targeting American interests.

The US Embassy in Riyadh issued a Level 3 advisory, warning of risks including armed conflict, terrorism, exit bans and attacks on American interests.

The advisory also warned against travel within 20 miles (32 kilometers) of the Yemeni border because of terrorism threats. US government employees are prohibited from traveling there and require special authorization for travel to Jizan, Asir, Najran and Qatif provinces.

The embassy said Iranian drone and missile threats have continued since hostilities between the United States and Iran began on Feb. 28.

The warning comes amid repeated missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia. The Saudi-led coalition said Wednesday that Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a drone near Mecca launched by Yemen’s Houthi group.

A day earlier, the coalition said 13 civilians were injured in missile and drone attacks on Khamis Mushait, Abha and Taif, while several homes and vehicles were damaged.

Saudi authorities have also issued security warnings for several cities amid heightened regional tensions.
