The World Bank has approved $300 million in financing to improve learning outcomes for 26 million children in Bangladesh, from pre-primary to Grade 5.
The funding will support efforts to strengthen primary education and improve children’s skills in reading, writing and mathematics.
According to a World Bank statement received on Sunday, the programme will introduce teaching materials, structured lesson plans and teacher training to improve foundational literacy and numeracy.
Jean Pesme, the World Bank’s Division Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan, said quality primary education was essential for building a globally competitive workforce.
The programme will also support improvements in teaching quality, classroom learning and educational opportunities for children across the country.
