KYIV/PARIS — French President Emmanuel Macron announced Thursday that 26 countries have committed to deploying troops as a “reassurance force” in Ukraine once the conflict with Russia ends. The pledge was made during a Paris meeting of the “coalition of the willing,” a group of 35 nations supporting Ukraine.
Macron emphasized that the force is intended to prevent new aggression, not to wage war against Russia, ensuring long-term security for Ukraine on land, sea, and air. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed U.S. support for the initiative, with final planning to be coordinated with Washington.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted the coalition’s firm commitment, stressing that pressure on Moscow must continue to achieve a ceasefire. European leaders warned that sanctions on Russia could intensify if fighting persists.
