Munich, February 13 (QNA) – The 62nd Munich Security Conference began today with broad international participation and heightened security measures.
Over the course of three days, the conference will address a range of issues related to international security and global politics, including the future of the international order, transatlantic relations, and ways to resolve international crises. Around 50 heads of state and government from across the world are taking part, including leaders from most European countries, in addition to a large German government delegation headed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
This year’s conference is being held at a time of rapid transformations on the international stage, as long-standing alliances have come under question and signs of erosion in the rules-based international order have increased, alongside rising conflicts and instability in several regions.
The main conference program will cover, among other topics, European security and defense policy, the future of transatlantic relations, the revival of multilateralism, competing visions of the global order, regional conflicts, and the impact of technological advances on security policies.
It is worth noting that Chairman of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger said the 2026 edition would serve as a central platform for global dialogue on key international security issues. He added that the conference would help deepen strategic discussions and strengthen international cooperation to address the most pressing global challenges at the current stage.
