Cairo, August 28 (QNA) – The sixth session of the Joint Higher Committee between the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt convened Thursday in Cairo, co-chaired by HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani and HE Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty.
The session reviewed cooperation between the two countries and ways to expand it across economic, investment, diplomatic, social, cultural, agricultural, and food security fields. Both sides affirmed their determination to strengthen bilateral relations, broaden areas of partnership, and advance joint Arab action for the benefit of both peoples.
Regional developments were also discussed, with a particular focus on the Gaza Strip. HE Sheikh Mohammed stressed continued coordination between Doha and Cairo in mediation efforts aimed at ending the war, ensuring civilian protection, facilitating prisoner and hostage releases, and enabling the safe flow of humanitarian aid to alleviate catastrophic conditions.
Both sides reviewed the new ceasefire proposal recently submitted by mediators, noting that Israel has yet to issue an official response despite the plan offering a genuine chance to halt aggression, secure aid delivery, and release detainees. They condemned Israel’s ongoing military escalation, starvation policy in Gaza, and settlement expansion in the West Bank, warning that such violations of international law further complicate the crisis, deepen humanitarian suffering, destabilize the region, and undermine prospects for a just peace.
Discussions also covered developments in Sudan, Yemen, Syria, Libya, Lebanon, the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and the Iranian nuclear file. Qatar reaffirmed its full support for regional and international efforts to achieve peace, preserve stability, and consolidate security across the Arab world.
The session concluded with the signing of several agreements, including a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on social insurance and pensions between the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority of Qatar and Egypt’s National Organization for Social Insurance; an MoU on agriculture and food security; and an MoU establishing a political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries, in addition to the official minutes of the session.
