Indian rescuers recovered eight bodies from the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in Lucknow on Sunday. The commercial structure, housing small businesses, crumbled on Saturday afternoon, leaving 28 people injured. Rescue teams, using heavy machinery, are still searching for potential survivors.
The cause of the collapse remains unclear, though monsoon rains are suspected to have weakened the building. Construction accidents are common during India’s June-September monsoon season, as aging structures often fail under relentless downpours.
Akash Singh, a building worker, said he noticed a pillar crack and moved to the ground floor before the building collapsed. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his sorrow, calling the deaths “heartbreaking,” and extended his condolences to the victims’
