Manchester United part ways with Erik Ten Hag amid struggling Season Start

Manchester United has dismissed manager Erik Ten Hag after a challenging start to the season, the club announced on Monday. United currently sits at a disappointing 14th position in the Premier League standings, having suffered four defeats in nine league matches, including a recent 1-0 loss to West Ham. Across all competitions, the team has won just once in their last eight games.

“Erik Ten Hag has stepped down as manager of Manchester United’s men’s first team,” read an official statement from the club. Appointed in April 2022, Ten Hag led United to domestic success, claiming the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.

“We are grateful for Erik’s contributions and wish him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement continued.

The club confirmed that Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as interim head coach, backed by the current coaching staff, while the search for a permanent replacement is underway.

Ten Hag’s tenure had been under scrutiny recently, with United co-owner Jim Ratcliffe opting to retain him following their FA Cup final victory over Manchester City. However, a poor league performance and United’s worst start since the 1989/90 season ultimately prompted the decision to part ways with the 54-year-old Dutchman.
