The U.S. has reached the decisive day for choosing its 47th president. Former President Donald Trump (Republican) and Vice President Kamala Harris (Democrat) are the main contenders. With over 80 million votes already cast, polling takes place today, and to win, a candidate needs 270 out of 538 electoral votes. Elections are also being held for 435 Representatives, 33 Senators, and Governors in 13 states.

Polling will start and end at different times across six U.S. time zones, with over 180 million people expected to vote. Early voting shows fluctuating leads between Trump and Harris in key states, including North Carolina (55% turnout) and Georgia (50%). The first results will come from Dixville Notch in New Hampshire, where three votes each were cast for Trump and Harris. Voting in other areas will begin later in the day. Seven key swing states, holding 93 electoral votes, are expected to be crucial in determining the winner. Recent polls show a tight race in Pennsylvania, with both candidates at 48%. Muslim voters are playing a significant role, responding to U.S. policies on Gaza.

Pakistani-Americans, along with other foreign nationals, are actively participating in the election, with several Pakistani- American candidates running for office. Enhanced security measures have been implemented nationwide, including the activation of National Guard units in multiple states to ensure a safe election process. The winner will take office in January 2025, as U.S. presidential elections occur every four years, with no individual allowed to serve more than two terms.
