Qatar Launches Fourth Edition of ‘Watan 2024’ Security Exercise
Under the patronage of HE Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya), has announced the launch of the fourth annual Watan 2024 exercise, taking place from November 10 to 13. Over 70 military, security, and civil entities, as well as Italian security forces, will participate.
The announcement was made at a press conference at Lekhwiya’s headquarters, attended by government and military representatives and the press. Staff Brigadier Mubarak Shraida Al Kaabi, Chairman of the Permanent Joint Exercises Committee and General Supervisor of Watan 2024, shared insights into the event. He emphasized the importance of the exercise in enhancing coordination between Qatar’s military, security, and civil agencies to ensure readiness and public safety under the nation’s wise leadership. This year’s scenarios address over 55 critical challenges and risks, from emergency incidents to disaster management, developed by experts in the field.
Captain Mohammed Ahmed Jaber Abdullah, Head of Scenario Planning, explained the six phases of the exercise: the Preliminary Phase, Readiness Phase, Preparation Phase, Office-based Execution Phase, Field-based Execution Phase, and Concluding Phase. Each phase will be staged across key locations such as land, sea, and air entry points, tourist and military sites, and critical infrastructure zones throughout Qatar.
In an exclusive interview with Haroon Rashid of Rahbar Kisan International, Engr. Muhammad Ahmed Al Dhahi, PR and Communication Director at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, highlighted the importance of civil sector involvement in Watan 2024. “The exercise allows us to test and refine emergency plans, simulate potential environmental and operational risks, and ensure a rapid, coordinated response across sectors,” he said.#MOIQatar #Watan2024
