Doha, November 11 (QNA) – On Qatar Human Rights Day, the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) launched its strategic plan for 2024-2030 under the theme “Human Rights: A Sustainable Force Towards a Better Future.” The occasion also marks the founding date of the NHRC, emphasizing Qatar’s commitment to human rights as a fundamental pillar of governance and social advancement.

HE Maryam bint Abdullah Al Attiyah, Chairperson of NHRC, noted that Qatar Human Rights Day reflects the country’s ongoing dedication to human rights, symbolized by the NHRC’s pivotal role in promoting and protecting rights at both the national and international levels. She highlighted the importance of the day, aligning with the national referendum on constitutional amendments, which aim to enhance citizenship equality and national cohesion.

The NHRC has garnered international acclaim for its high standards, achieving accreditation level “A” from the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions for three consecutive terms. This recognition underscores the committee’s commitment to modern management, strategic planning, and the principle of independence, as it continues to enhance its impact on human rights both locally and globally.

Al Attiyah outlined the committee’s new strategic plan, which emphasizes a results-oriented approach. The plan focuses on key objectives such as strengthening legal frameworks, promoting social justice, protecting vulnerable groups, and enhancing civil society partnerships. It also aims to bolster the NHRC’s internal performance and its role in evaluating national human rights practices.

Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, Vice-Chairman of NHRC, explained that the strategic plan integrates over 250 references, drawing from national, regional, and international legal standards. The plan focuses on aligning Qatar’s legal framework with international human rights principles, spreading human rights culture, and deepening regional and international cooperation.

The NHRC also honored key figures for their contributions to human rights, including HE Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, former NHRC Chairman, and HE Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, recognizing their leadership and commitment to advancing human rights.

This comprehensive plan, designed with guiding principles of realism, effectiveness, and participation, represents the NHRC’s roadmap for shaping a future where human rights are safeguarded, promoted, and continuously improved.
