Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has voiced strong disapproval of the U.S. decision to allow Ukraine to deploy Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) against Russia, warning of escalating global tensions and a prolonged war. Speaking to reporters after attending the G20 Summit in Brazil, Erdogan stated, “We do not consider this a right decision, nor do we approve of it.”
Erdogan emphasized diplomacy over arms, urging efforts to end the conflict through peace and dialogue. “Adding more weapons only ensures more blood and tears. This move by President Biden could fuel the war and push the world toward greater instability,” he said.
Highlighting the global implications, Erdogan cautioned that rising missile tensions could push the region to the brink of a wider conflict.
At the G20 Summit, Erdogan underscored Türkiye’s role in promoting peace and sustainable development, with a focus on addressing global inequalities and humanitarian crises. He advocated for delivering aid to Gaza and Lebanon and praised the inclusion of strong language on Gaza in the G20 Leaders’ Declaration.
On national security, Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to combating terrorism. He urged the Syrian regime to take greater responsibility against groups like the PKK and YPG, emphasizing Türkiye’s aim for a “terror-free” future.
Erdogan also called for global system reforms, stating, “The broken system must be fixed before it leads to irreversible disasters. A fairer world is possible.”
The Turkish president concluded by reaffirming his government’s vigilance against internal and external threats, including FETO, ensuring national security remains a top priority.
