Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub, has accused Shahbaz Sharif of ordering the shooting of unarmed party workers, stating that the bloodshed in Model Town and on November 26 is on Shehbaz Sharif’s hands. Speaking during a point of order in the National Assembly on Tuesday, Ayub thanked the House for praying for the martyred workers of November 26 and demanded a commission of inquiry to investigate why peaceful protesters were fired upon. He said, “We need to get to the bottom of why peaceful protesters were shot at, and the Pakistani nation deserves an answer.” He claimed that 12 PTI workers were martyred, 200 were injured, and over 5,000 party members were arrested. He pointed out that PTI’s peaceful protest had not caused any destruction, unlike protests by other political parties, where no one had been shot. “The coming generations will keep asking why bullets were fired on PTI workers,” he added. He reiterated, “The blood of Model Town and November 26 is on Shehbaz Sharif’s hands. He gave the order to shoot unarmed workers.” Ayub also claimed that the bullets fired were not from rifles but machine guns, and the firing occurred at a range of just 150 meters. “When our workers fell, hospital records were mysteriously erased,” he said. He further alleged that the weapons meant for counterterrorism had been used against peaceful civilians, and the arms provided by NATO through the Coalition Support Fund were used to target the protesters.According to Ayub, firing began at around 8:30 pm, and a sniper targeted Bushra Bibi’s vehicle. He concluded, “We want to take the country forward, but our innocent people must be released. If detained workers are not freed, we will launch a civil disobedience movement.” He also condemned Islamabad Police for allegedly targeting Pashtun individuals, stating, “We have sacrificed our lives for this land and will continue to do so.” He urged the Speaker of the National Assembly to prevent the sanctity of the House from being violated and to protect members from being falsely implicated in baseless cases.
