Donald Trump, the Republican victor of the November election, will assume office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025. This marks his second term after serving as president from 2017 to 2021. Alongside Trump, JD Vance will take the oath as vice president.
Since his election win, Trump has met with outgoing President Joe Biden, symbolizing a peaceful transfer of power. He has engaged with world leaders, including Canada’s Justin Trudeau and Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky, and prominent business figures like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg at his Florida estate, Mar-a-Lago.
Trump has begun shaping his administration, nominating over two dozen individuals for key roles. These include Pete Hegseth as defense secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as health secretary, and Pam Bondi as attorney general. Notably, Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the newly-formed Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) as volunteer advisors to streamline spending.
The electoral process saw Trump secure 312 electoral votes, surpassing the 270 required to win. Congress will certify the results on January 6, 2025, with outgoing Vice President Kamala Harris presiding.
Trump’s inauguration at the Capitol will include the oath of office and his inaugural address. Biden, who did not attend Trump’s 2021 inauguration, has confirmed his presence this time.
Per the 22nd Amendment, this will be Trump’s final eligible term as president. His administration is poised to tackle significant challenges, including healthcare reforms under RFK Jr. and efficiency initiatives by Musk and Ramaswamy.
