Washington, December 24 (QNA) – Microsoft has been working on adding internal and third-party artificial intelligence models to support its flagship AI product Microsoft 365 Copilot, in a bid to reduce its reliance on OpenAI technologies and lower costs, according to sources cited by Reuters.
This comes after years of using OpenAI models, such as GPT-4, in 365 Copilot, which was launched in March 2023. The company now seeks to reduce this dependency due to high costs and speed issues faced by its business clients.
Microsoft clarified that OpenAI will remain a key partner in providing advanced models. “We incorporate various models from OpenAI and Microsoft depending on the product and experience,” Microsoft said in a statement.
Microsoft is also developing smaller models, such as Phi-4, and customizing other models to improve the efficiency and speed of 365 Copilot.
These improvements aim to lower the operational costs of the product, which could result in price reductions for customers
