Ramallah, January 19 (QNA) – The Palestinian Journalists’ Syndicate reported Sunday that 193 journalists have been slain by the Israeli occupation forces in the Gaza Strip since the onset of the offensive in the Gaza Strip on Oct.7, 2023.
Addressing the annual Freedom Conference held Sunday at the Syndicate’s headquarters in Ramallah, Head of the Syndicate, Nasser Abu Bakr, stated that the journalists triggered the international public opinion, despite the killing, slaughter and destruction against them, but they remained resilient and professionally conveyed the truth to the world.
For his part, Head of the Syndicate’s Freedom Committee, Mohammad Al Laham, presented the committee’s annual report, highlighting that 86 journalists were injured by live ammunition and rocket shrapnel.
He stressed that there are 64 arrest cases against journalists in Gaza and the West Bank, in addition to destroying 54 media institutions, either entirely or partially, as well as seizure and vandalism.
Al Laham added that the Israeli occupation forces attempted to run over journalists by armored vehicles, with 2024 witnessing an overwhelming surge in firing incidents at journalists to terrorize and dissuade them from covering the incidents.
He highlighted that 148 incidents were recorded in which journalists were wounded, with 85 incidents during which journalists were traumatized by inhaling poisonous tear gases.
