Davos, January 21 (QNA) – HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, expressed optimism that the Gaza Ceasefire deal represents a significant first step toward regional stability. Speaking during the “Diplomacy in the Midst of Chaos” panel at the 55th World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, His Excellency highlighted the importance of mutual commitment to the deal by the involved parties.
Moderated by HE President of the World Economic Forum, Borge Brende, the discussion emphasized Qatar’s role as a guarantor and mediator in facilitating the agreement. His Excellency praised the humanitarian achievements of the deal, including the delivery of aid to Gaza and the return of hostages after 15 months of intense negotiations. He stressed the need for both parties to honor the agreement to ensure positive outcomes.
HE Sheikh Mohammed underscored the potential role of the Palestinian Authority in Gaza’s reconstruction and governance. He expressed hope for the formation of a Palestinian government capable of addressing the realities of the Palestinian people and tackling the aftermath of the 15-month conflict. However, he stressed that the resolution of these issues should be determined solely by the Palestinians without external imposition.
The Prime Minister noted recent positive developments in the Middle East, including Lebanon’s presidential election and the removal of Syria’s oppressive regime, as steps toward a brighter future. He emphasized the potential for enhanced collaboration with the US under President Donald Trump’s leadership, praising Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff for his substantial contribution to the ceasefire negotiations.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Damascus, His Excellency shared the Syrian administration’s assurances of inclusivity and reconciliation. He expressed hope that this approach would help Syria recover from 13 years of civil war and contribute to broader regional stability.
In his closing remarks, His Excellency reaffirmed Qatar’s confidence in the Syrian people’s resilience. He highlighted their achievements in diaspora communities, where they have successfully integrated and thrived despite challenges.
