West Indies secure first Test win in Pakistan in 35 years

Spinner Jomel Warrican claimed five wickets as the West Indies defeated Pakistan by 120 runs in the second Test in Multan, securing their first win in Pakistan in 35 years. This victory leveled the series 1-1 after Pakistan’s 127-run win in the first Test, also in Multan.
Warrican’s remarkable 9-wicket match haul, which included 19 wickets in the series, was a key factor in the West Indies’ historic triumph. His performance on spin-friendly pitches proved vital as the West Indies replicated Pakistan’s spin success. The last time the West Indies won a Test in Pakistan was in Faisalabad in 1990.
West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite praised the young squad’s achievement. “To come here and win, especially with a young team, is incredible,” he said. Warrican, who also scored 36 not out in the West Indies’ first innings of 163, earned both the Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood stood by his team’s spin strategy, saying they were in a strong position early, but the West Indies’ dominance with the ball turned the tide. Pakistan’s chase of 254 faltered as they were bowled out for just 133, with Warrican and Gudakesh Motie taking the final wickets.
The defeat saw Pakistan drop to the bottom of the World Test Championship table, while the West Indies moved up to eighth. Australia, the current WTC champions, will face South Africa in the final at Lord’s in June.
