Türkiye and Egypt have jointly condemned efforts to displace Palestinians, reaffirming their strong support for Palestinian rights in a statement issued after a meeting between Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty in Ankara.
The two countries emphasized the importance of preserving the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) to continue its humanitarian work in Palestinian territories, calling on Israel to reverse decisions undermining the agency’s mission. They also highlighted the significance of Palestinian attachment to their land and condemned any actions aimed at displacing or relocating them, warning of potential regional instability and escalating conflict.
Both nations reiterated their commitment to a just and lasting peace based on international law and UN resolutions, advocating for a two-state solution with an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and East Jerusalem as its capital.
The ministers also expressed support for the Gaza ceasefire agreement and prisoner exchange, praising mediation efforts by Egypt, Qatar, and the US. They called for increased humanitarian aid and reconstruction in Gaza, urging international donors to participate in an upcoming reconstruction conference in Egypt.
On regional matters, Türkiye and Egypt emphasized their support for Syria’s territorial integrity and the need for an inclusive political process. They also voiced concerns over Sudan’s humanitarian crisis, supported Somalia’s unity, and reaffirmed commitment to Libya’s political stability and territorial integrity.
Finally, the ministers highlighted the growing bilateral relationship, noting a trade volume of $8.8 billion and a target of $15 billion by 2025.
