London, March 02 (QNA) – British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Sunday that the UK and France are working together to prepare a plan to stop the fighting between Ukraine and Russia.
In remarks to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), Starmer said that the UK and France will work with Ukraine “on a plan to stop the fighting” with Russia – and will then “discuss that plan with the United States”.
He stressed that he is convinced that US President Donald Trump wants to reach a lasting peace in Ukraine despite the verbal altercation that took place with the Ukrainian president in the White House last Friday.
Starmer explained that European countries need a security guarantee or support from the United States to prevent Russia from carrying out military operations in Ukraine again if a peace agreement is reached.
The British Prime Minister’s statements come hours before a crucial summit is held in London with dozens of European officials to discuss support for Ukraine in light of the US administration’s changing policy towards Kyiv, in addition to discussing broader European defense issues.
