New York, March 8 (QNA) – The State of Qatar chaired the annual ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends on Gender Parity, organized by the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations in partnership with the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Rwanda. The meeting took place on the margin of the 69th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women.
HE Minister of Social Development and Family, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi led the Qatari delegation to the meeting.
HE Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres attended the meeting, alongside HE Minister of State for Education of the Republic of Rwanda, Claudette Irere, who co-chaired the session.
In her remarks, HE the Minister of Social Development and Family highlighted the significant progress made in advancing gender parity across the United Nations system.
She underscored that women in the State of Qatar hold leadership positions across various sectors and that the country leads the region in key empowerment indicators. These include the highest rate of women’s participation in the workforce and the highest percentage of women enrolled in university programs.
Additionally, she emphasized that the policies and legislation adopted by the State of Qatar support work-life balance, further strengthening women’s participation in both the public and private sectors.
