Qatar Participates in UN Commission on the Status of Women

New York, March 13 (QNA) – The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, participated in the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women, held at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. HE Minister of Social Development and Family, Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi led the State of Qatar’s delegation and delivered Qatar’s statement during the general discussion of the Commission on the Status of Women, emphasizing the key role of Qatari women in various fields and the state’s ongoing efforts to promote their rights and empower them through supportive policies that contribute to achieving sustainable development.
As part of the session’s activities, Her Excellency participated in a side event entitled “Women and Technology: Inspiring Stories in the GCC Countries,” which showcased successful experiences in empowering women in the technology sector in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. She also delivered a speech highlighting the role of Qatari women in technology and innovation and reviewed the state’s efforts to support this vital sector through national initiatives, capacity-building programs, and digital transformation policies.
On the sidelines of the session, HE the Minister held bilateral meetings with several senior officials, including HE First Lady of Lebanon, Nemat Aoun, discussing ways to enhance Arab cooperation in women’s empowerment. She also met with officials from the Republic of Turkiye, the State of Kuwait, the Republic of Hungary, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Republic of Singapore, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Sultanate of Oman, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Liberia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and representatives from the Government of India. These meetings focused on strengthening partnerships, exchanging best practices, and fostering collaboration in social development, legislative reforms, and inclusive policies that promote gender equality.
Qatar reaffirmed its commitment to supporting global efforts that advance women’s rights, enhance their leadership roles, and create more opportunities in various fields, particularly in technology and sustainable development.
