Pakistan suffered a crushing nine-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the first T20 at Christchurch on Sunday, failing to defend a paltry total of 91.
Pakistan’s innings collapsed early, reduced to a dire 11-4 by the fifth over, with Kyle Jamieson wreaking havoc with the new ball. The visitors were eventually all out for their lowest-ever T20 score on New Zealand soil.
Jamieson took 3-8, while Jacob Duffy delivered a career-best 4-14, helping New Zealand bowl Pakistan out with eight balls remaining. Only three Pakistan players reached double figures, with Khushdil Shah top-scoring with 32, including three sixes.
Set a simple target, New Zealand cruised to victory in just 10.1 overs, reaching 92-1. Tim Seifert led the charge with 44 off 29 balls, while Finn Allen and Tim Robinson contributed 29 and 18, respectively, sealing the win on the first ball of the 11th over.
Pakistan’s total of 91 was their lowest score in a T20 in New Zealand, surpassing their previous low of 101 in 2016.
The second match of the series is scheduled for Tuesday in Dunedin, where Pakistan will look to bounce back and level the series.
