Doha, March 19 (QNA) – Doha will host an international conference on Orientalism from April 26 to 27, Qatar Foundation’s QatarDebate Center announced Wednesday.
At least 300 researchers from 50 countries will be engaging in extensive discussions on multiple manifestations of new orientalism with the aim of envisioning a balanced civilizational communication.
This first edition of the conference will be organized by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and QatarDebate Center – in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Permanent Committee for Organizing Conferences and in collaboration with Qatar University, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, along with several international institutions, including Leiden University, the Netherlands, the Center for Advanced Studies in Sarajevo, and the Dagestan State University.
The agenda includes the reality and development of Orientalist studies and their historical and contemporary positions on contemporary issues and the East-West interaction throughout history.
The event will be a platform for researchers to exchange experiences with leading scholars in the fields of Orientalism, Arab and Islamic studies, and to enhance future cooperation.
A select group of prominent Arab and Western scholars will participate under the supervision of the conference’s scientific committee, headed by Professor of mathematics and Russian Orientalism expert Mahmoud Al Hamza.
Professors from Qatari universities and institutions will also participate in the conference.
The keynote speech at the conference will be delivered by French scholar and politician Dr. Francois Burgat.
