KIEV, March 26 – The United States has proposed a revised mineral deal to Ukraine, following an initial framework agreement, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Tuesday.
“After the framework deal, a full agreement is being developed. Now, the U.S. has offered us a ‘major’ deal,” Zelensky stated, describing it as a comprehensive proposal reflecting the American vision. However, he noted that details are still undisclosed.
He clarified that the updated agreement excludes U.S. involvement in Ukraine’s nuclear power plants, a component U.S. President Donald Trump had suggested last week.
On March 20, Trump indicated that a rare earth mineral deal with Ukraine would be finalized “very shortly.” Initially set to be signed in Washington at the end of February, the agreement was delayed following a tense exchange between the two leaders at the White House.
Meanwhile, Zelensky emphasized that territorial issues were not part of recent U.S.-Ukraine negotiations held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. “There are no territorial issues, so it does not matter what they (the Russians) say,” he remarked.
The revised minerals deal is expected to play a key role in strengthening economic cooperation between the two nations, amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.
