Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has officially taken over as President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), effective April 3. His appointment follows the ACC’s rotational policy, confirmed earlier during a council meeting in Malaysia.
Naqvi succeeds Sri Lanka Cricket’s Shammi Silva, who assumed the role after Jay Shah was appointed as ICC President in December 2023. Indian media had previously reported that Naqvi was next in line for the ACC presidency.
In a statement issued by the ACC, Naqvi expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council. Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence.”
He emphasized fostering unity, innovation, and strategic growth across Asian cricket, adding, “Together, we will unlock new opportunities and take the game to unprecedented heights.” He also thanked the outgoing president for his leadership and service.
Shammi Silva said it had been a privilege to serve as ACC President, and he praised the collective efforts of member boards. He extended confidence in Naqvi’s capable leadership, noting the council would thrive under his guidance.
The ACC stated that Naqvi brings a visionary approach focused on youth development and elevating Asia’s global cricketing stature. The PCB also announced that Pakistan will lead efforts to strengthen and expand cricket across the continent.
“With Pakistan at the helm, the ACC is poised to foster greater growth and unity within the sport,” the PCB press release added.
