Shura Council Speaker: Qatar prioritizes development and social justice

Tashkent, April 6 (QNA) – HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council, emphasized Qatar’s commitment to development and social justice, core principles of its National Vision 2030. He highlighted that these values are vital for building a cohesive and advanced society based on justice, equality, human dignity, and tolerance.
In his speech at the 150th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Tashkent, under the theme “Parliamentary Action for Development and Social Justice,” HE Al Ghanim underscored the challenges the international community faces in sustainable development. He called for a reassessment of efforts to achieve the 2030 Agenda, citing rising poverty, conflicts, and environmental crises.
HE Al Ghanim reaffirmed Qatar’s active role in supporting development and social justice globally, noting the country’s international partnerships. He also announced Qatar would host the Second World Summit for Social Development in November to assess progress since the first summit.
Addressing the situation in Palestine, HE Al Ghanim condemned the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, which has caused significant loss of life and displacement of Palestinians. He called the actions in Gaza a “crime of genocide and ethnic cleansing,” stressing that the international community’s failure to act places it before a moral responsibility.
HE Al Ghanim urged immediate cessation of the violence and a rejection of displacement, calling on parliamentarians to advocate for human justice. He also urged the Inter-Parliamentary Union to press member parliaments to take stronger action against the aggression, given the repeated failure of UN institutions to protect civilians.
Additionally, HE Al Ghanim participated in the 215th session of the IPU Governing Council.
