MIRPUR ( AJK): April 10 The Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir has, in famous Cha Cha Ali Muhammad Advocate murder case, partially upheld the verdicts of the subordinate courts by passing a judgment on April 7, 2025, in the case titled “Muhammad Yasin etc v/s AJK Government etc”, keeping intact the death sentence awarded to the principal accused besides upholding the sentences to all other co-accused except one, ot was officially said.
However, the capital punishment awarded to one of the accused for facilitating and abetting in the case, has been commuted into life imprisonment.
“This judgment is a practical endorsement of the principles of judicial justice, rule of law and transparency, through which the message has been given that everyone is equal before the law and rule of justice will be established in all cases”, says an official handout ossued by PID Mirpur AJK division office issued here Thursday.
Quoting a press release issued by the Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, the hand out stated that on March 19, 2008, Ali Muhammad Cha Cha Advocate (deceased) was shot dead. After the arrest of the accused, a formal trial was conducted against them, as a result of which the District Criminal Court, Mirpur, on December 23, 2014, sentenced the two main accused to death while the co-accused were sentenced to 14 and 7 years in prison. Appeals against these sentences and references for confirmation were filed in the Shariat Appellate Bench of the High Court of AJK, on which the learned court, in its judgment dated December 27, 2022, upheld the judgement / verdictof the criminal court, it added
