King Charles III and Queen Camilla marked Easter Sunday with a traditional church service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. The royal couple joined other members of the Royal Family for the Easter Matins in the historic 15th-century chapel.
Noticeably absent were the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children, who spent the holiday weekend in Norfolk. Following the service, well-wishers greeted the King and Queen, with a young girl presenting the Queen a bouquet.
Among the attendees were the Duke of York, Prince Andrew, who arrived with his ex-wife Sarah, Duchess of York, accompanied by Princess Anne and her husband Sir Tim Laurence. Princess Anne was seen engaging with the Dean of Windsor, the Right Reverend Christopher Cocksworth, while Prince Andrew quickly entered the chapel.
Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie attended with their husbands, and the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh arrived alongside their son James, who appeared taller than his father, Prince Edward, as they walked past royal supporters.
The service followed the King and Queen’s participation in the Maundy Thursday ceremony held at Durham Cathedral, where the King emphasized unity among faiths and praised those offering humanitarian aid.
Meanwhile, the Easter sermon traditionally delivered by the Archbishop of Canterbury was given this year by Archbishop of York Stephen Cottrell at York Minster. In his message, he called for peace in conflict-ridden regions including Israel and Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, and Myanmar, urging an end to hatred and division.
Cardinal Vincent Nichols, leader of the Roman Catholic Church in England and Wales, also echoed calls for peace during his Easter Vigil homily, praying for those suffering in war zones across the world.
