MIRPUR ( AJK): April 28: The All Pakistan Akhtar Ali Siddique and Chaudhry Muhammad Riaz Memorial Football Tournament was held at the Government Postgraduate College ground here on Monday.
Atleast 16 district level teams from Azad Jammu Kashmir and various parts of the country participated in the tournament, organized by Youth Football Club Mirpur AJK.
The inaugural match was played between Kotli District and Al-Zaki Football Club Gujarat, which Gujarat won by two goals to one.
Azad Kashmir Minister for Higher Education Zafar Iqbal Malik formally inaugurated the tournament being chief guest.
Earliwr Minister for Higher Education Zafar Iqbal Malik, along with former Advocate General Raja Inamullah Khan, were warmly welcomed by the tournament administration.
The government minister went to the ground and met the players and took a group photo with both the teams. Later, he formally inaugurated the event by kicking the ball. The tournament administration had decorated the ground of Government College Mirpur beautifully by putting up various banners and various stalls.
A large number of football fans were present to watch the opening match. Minister for Higher Education Zafar Iqbal Malik, while praising the efforts of the tournament administration in great words, said that the competitions organized by the Youth Football Club by bringing together players from Azad Jammu Kashmir and Pakistan will promote healthy activities. On this occasion, he said that the young generation was our bright future.
The minister said the government of Azad Janmu Kashmir was taking steps to improve the quality of education in Azad Jammu Kashmir and promoting sports to develop the intelligence and physical abilities of the young generation.
He said that the grounds of colleges across Azad Kashmir will be upgraded so that players can get opportunities to play various games.
