Sydney Town, May 6, 2025 – Vice-Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al-Kuwari held a series of significant meetings with senior officials in Sydney, focusing on enhancing human rights cooperation between Qatar and Australia.
Dr. Al-Kuwari met with Hugh de Kretser, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, Kate Anderson, Assistant Commonwealth Ombudsman, and Kieren Fitzpatrick, Director of the Asia-Pacific Forum of National Human Rights Institutions. During these discussions, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the NHRC and the Asia-Pacific Forum, aimed at building bridges for mutual understanding, sharing expertise, and advancing human rights initiatives.
The agreement includes the exchange of best practices, information, legislation, and publications, along with joint workshops and training programs designed to enhance institutional capacities. It also covers joint procedural guides, operational manuals for complaint handling, and educational programs that promote human rights values in both nations. Furthermore, both sides agreed to launch collaborative research projects and organize consultative meetings to address emerging global and regional human rights challenges.
Al-Kuwari emphasized Qatar and Australia’s critical roles in international peace and security, citing their contributions to conflict mediation and dialogue among civilizations. He noted that the cooperation would strengthen monitoring mechanisms for human rights violations and promote awareness campaigns focused on vulnerable communities, including women and workers.
The meetings also explored the establishment of an electronic dialogue platform to facilitate ongoing communication and cooperation on human rights issues. Both parties expressed optimism that this partnership would bolster regional and international efforts in protecting and promoting human rights.
Dr. Al-Kuwari affirmed that the collaboration would not only support institutional growth but also enhance Qatar’s commitment to global human rights standards.
