Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced plans to send his Defense Minister to participate in peace talks aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict with Russia. Despite the move, Zelensky expressed skepticism over Moscow’s commitment to genuine negotiations, stating that Russia remains “not serious” about achieving lasting peace.
Speaking during a press briefing in Kyiv, Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine remains committed to diplomatic solutions but is cautious about Russia’s intentions. “We are prepared to explore every opportunity for peace, but it requires genuine commitment, not just political posturing,” he said.
The Ukrainian Defense Minister will lead a delegation to the talks, focusing on ceasefire measures, humanitarian aid access, and security guarantees for affected regions. Zelensky underscored that any negotiations must include accountability for war crimes and respect for Ukraine’s sovereignty. “Our stance is clear: peace cannot come at the expense of justice or territorial integrity,” he added.
International observers have expressed hope for progress but share Ukraine’s concerns about Russia’s sincerity. Western nations continue to support Kyiv’s position, emphasizing that any peace agreement must be fair and verifiable.
Zelensky’s remarks come amid heightened tensions and ongoing military activity in Eastern Ukraine. He called on global leaders to maintain pressure on Moscow to engage meaningfully in the peace process. “Peace is possible, but only if there is real commitment from all sides,” he concluded.
The upcoming talks are seen as a critical test for diplomatic efforts, with global attention focused on whether meaningful steps toward de-escalation can be achieved.
