The 2025 Sunday Times Rich List reveals a significant shift in the UK’s wealth landscape, with the number of billionaires dropping to 156 from 165 in 2024—the sharpest decline since the list’s inception in 1989. This downturn is attributed to global market fluctuations and recent changes in the UK’s tax policies, including the abolition of the ‘non-dom’ tax status.
Despite the overall decline, King Charles III’s personal wealth has increased by £30 million over the past year, bringing his total fortune to £640 million. This growth elevates him to the 258th position on the list, matching the wealth of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty.
Topping the list for the fourth consecutive year is the Hinduja family, with a fortune of £35.3 billion, followed by the Reuben brothers at £26.87 billion and Sir Leonard Blavatnik at £25.73 billion. Sir Jim Ratcliffe experienced the most significant loss, with his wealth decreasing by £6.473 billion to £17.046 billion, dropping him from fourth to seventh place.
The entertainment industry also saw notable entries, with Dua Lipa becoming the youngest person on the list at 29 years old, boasting a net worth of £115 million. Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles also featured prominently, with fortunes of £370 million and £225 million, respectively.
The list reflects a broader trend of wealth redistribution and economic shifts within the UK, influenced by both domestic policy changes and global economic factors.
