Tokyo, May 23 (QNA) – Japan renewed today its call on the United States to remove the tariffs recently imposed by US President Donald Trump on several countries, including Japan.
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said he held a phone conversation with the US president earlier in the day, during which he reaffirmed Japan’s demand for the removal of the US tariffs, ahead of new bilateral talks.
Speaking at a press conference in Tokyo, the Prime Minister said that the two sides discussed a wide range of topics, including tariffs and economic security.
He added that the discussions were not limited to tariffs but also included investment, noting that Japan will not change its position on cooperating with the US to create jobs there.
The call came as Japan’s chief trade negotiator headed to Washington to take part in the third round of trade talks between the two countries.
