Veteran Pakistani journalist Hanif Khalid, Resident Editor of Daily Jang, Pakistan’s largest circulated newspaper praised the efforts of the Government of Uzbekistan during the Tashkent International Investment Forum (TIIF), calling it a “remarkable initiative” for promoting regional economic growth and cooperation.
Speaking to Haroon Qureshi Editor in Chief Rahbar Kisan International on the sidelines of the forum, Khalid remarked, “This conference is highly valuable as it highlights the importance of international investments. No country can develop without both local and foreign investments. Even major powers like the United States and China continue to engage in trade promotion. He lauded the leadership of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for organizing the event, stating, “The President’s vision and initiative in hosting this forum is commendable and in the best interest of the Uzbek nation.”
Introducing himself, Khalid said, “With the blessings of Almighty Allah, I joined Jang and Geo Group as a Sub editor on 1 Jan 1970 and continously working in the group. From 24 September 2008, I have been working as a Resident Editor Daily Jang Rawalpindi. Today, I stand as the senior-most journalist in Pakistan who has continously serving for past 55 years in one organization”
Highlighting his vast professional experience, Khalid noted that he has attended dozens of high-level conferences globally and frequently traveled with Presidents and Prime Ministers of Pakistan since 1976. Among them were prominent leaders including Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Prime Minister Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, President Farooq Leghari, President Zia ul Haq, Prime Minister Pervaiz Ashraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and others.
Recalling a personal moment, Khalid shared that Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif visited my residence in November 1992 to condole the death of my parents. He remained at my residence in Islamabad for more than 3 hours. The Prime Minister narrated to me and my brother and others about his parents who lived in Jatti Umrah near Amritsar.
Khalid further told that Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on 27th December, 1995 attended his daughter’s wedding at the Islamabad Marriott Hotel and spent around four hours at the event longer, she joked, than she spent at her own wedding reception in Karachi.
Concluding his remarks, Khalid said, “The arrangements for this forum are among the best I’ve seen. The support extended to the media has been excellent. I am confident this conference will yield long-term benefits for Uzbekistan and the broader region.”
