ISTANBUL, June 20, 2025 — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that Israel’s ongoing military actions risk triggering a regional crisis with global repercussions.
In a phone conversation with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Erdogan cautioned that the escalating violence could spark mass migration towards Europe and increase the danger of nuclear fallout, particularly if tensions with Iran intensify.
According to a statement from Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, Erdogan emphasized that nuclear issues involving Iran should be resolved through dialogue, not conflict.
The leaders also exchanged views on key regional developments and discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Türkiye and Germany.
Erdogan reiterated that the current trajectory of Israeli military aggression poses a severe threat to Middle Eastern stability and has the potential to impact European security directly.
The call highlights growing concern in Ankara over the broader implications of the conflict and Türkiye’s continued push for diplomatic solutions in the region.
