KUALA LUMPUR, June 26, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has welcomed the recently declared ceasefire between Israel and Iran, calling on all parties to uphold the agreement and avoid further escalation.
In a joint statement issued Thursday, ASEAN emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure in accordance with international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
“We urge all parties to respect the ceasefire and avoid any actions that could reignite hostilities,” the statement said. “ASEAN supports ongoing efforts, including those led by the United Nations, aimed at de-escalating tensions and resuming constructive engagement among the involved parties.”
The ceasefire, declared earlier this week, follows a period of heightened conflict between Israel and Iran, which had raised international concerns over broader regional instability.
ASEAN reiterated its commitment to peace, stability, and diplomacy, urging dialogue as the primary means to resolve disputes. The bloc encouraged all stakeholders to pursue lasting solutions and refrain from provocations that could undermine regional and global security.
ASEAN consists of 10 member states in Southeast Asia and often acts as a collective voice on key geopolitical issues affecting peace and stability in the wider region.
