Tehran – Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chairman of Iran’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, has expressed deep gratitude to Pakistan for its support during the recent 12-day conflict involving Israel and the United States.
In a phone call with Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, on Sunday, General Mousavi acknowledged Islamabad’s diplomatic alignment and solidarity during what he termed an “unprovoked war of aggression” by the U.S. and Israel against Iran.
He described the conflict, which began on June 13, as an “imposed war,” emphasizing that the United States not only supported the Israeli regime but actively participated by deploying airpower and defense systems. “Washington mobilized all its capabilities to protect the Zionist regime, while other Western nations followed suit in both rhetoric and action,” he said.
Despite suffering casualties, including the martyrdom of senior commanders early in the conflict, General Mousavi stressed that Iran’s armed forces successfully countered the offensive. “Our response weakened their objectives, and ultimately forced them to seek a ceasefire,” he stated.
The conflict escalated sharply when U.S. forces joined on June 22, striking Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. Iran retaliated with a wave of coordinated missile and drone strikes on strategic Israeli-held targets, reportedly causing substantial damage.
The war concluded with a ceasefire announced on June 24, just days after it threatened to derail scheduled nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington.
General Mousavi emphasized that Iran values Pakistan’s principled stance during the crisis, calling for continued cooperation in defense diplomacy and regional stability.
