MIRPUR ( AJK): July 13: Paying rich tributes to the Kashmiri martyrs of July 13, 1931, President, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Supreme Court Bar Association, Advocate Javaid Najam-us-Saqib, termed the horrifying day in Kashmir’s ancient history as the day of luminous chapter in Kashmir’s history that infused a new spirit into the struggle for freedom of the motherland from despotic Dogra and later Indian forced and unlawful rule.

In his statement issued to the media on the occasion of Youm e Shuhada e Kashmir on Sunday, the AJK SCBA President recalled that the sacrifice of 22 innocent Kashmiris outside Srinagar Central Jail—who embraced martyredom at the hands of the despotic dogra forces while completing the prayer’ (Azaan) call, still echoes as a powerful symbol of resistance and faith.

“These martyrs laid down their lives to kindle the flame of liberty amidst the darkness of tyranny. Not a single one turned his back to the bullets, a testament to their unmatched courage, honor, and unwavering resolve,” he stated.

Advocate Najam-us-Saqib said that following the fall of the Maharaja’s regime in 1947, the people of Kashmir stood on the threshold of freedom, only for their hopes to be crushed by India’s military aggression and unlawful occupation of the region.

Referring to the unilateral revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on August 5, 2019, and the heightened tensions across the Line of Control in May 2025, he emphasized that India’s actions are not only in blatant violation of international law and UN resolutions but also pose a grave threat to peace and stability in South Asia.

He urged the international community, including the United Nations, the European Union, and global human rights organizations, to take cognizance of India’s colonial designs in Kashmir, raise their voices against ongoing atrocities, and help resolve the dispute in accordance with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

“The mission of the martyrs of July 13, 1931, is a sacred trust upon us,” he added. “The legal fraternity of Azad Jammu Kashmir stands firmly with the oppressed people of Indian- Illegally occupied Kashmir and will continue to advocate their cause at every international forum with full strength and commitment.
