MIRPUR ( AJK): July 14: — The Institute of Dialogue, Development and Diplomatic Studies (IDDDs) in collaboration with Degree College Doodnihal, AJK, hosted a seminar titled “Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Kashmir: The Trajectory from ‘Quit Kashmir Movement’ to ‘Quit India Movement'” to commemorate the martyrs of 13th July 1931, which called for accomplishment of the mission of the Kashmiri martyrs through bringing the Kashmir freedom struggle to its logical end
On this historic day, 22 unarmed Kashmiris had embraced martyrdom in the compound of Srinagar Central Jail while reciting the Azaan. Despite the brutal firing by Dogra Hindu forces, the Azaan was completed — a moment etched in the collective memory of the Kashmiri resistance.
The massacre remains a pivotal episode in Kashmir’s political and resistance history. While the Dogra tyranny has faded into the past, it has been replaced by the ideological oppression of the Hindutva regime. The killings, suppression, and denial of rights continue — only the face of the tyrant has changed; tyranny itself persists.
Our AJK Correspondent reports from Mirpur that the seminar was inaugurated by Prof. Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone, Principal of Degree College Doodnihal, who stressed that the younger generation bears the solemn responsibility to carry the torch of resistance. He stated:
“Oppressors may change their faces, but oppression remains until Kashmir is liberated from the clutches of occupation. This is not merely a political issue — it is a question of our very existence.”
The legacy of the martyrs of 13 July is clear and uncompromising: Kashmiris will never surrender. Every generation must be taught not only about the valor of the freedom fighters but also the betrayal by those who deviated from the cause. The historical betrayal of the Muslim Conference and Sheikh Abdullah — despite a dying martyr pleading with him to carry forward the mission of liberation — remains a solemn lesson. Sheikh Abdullah, unfortunately, fell into the trap laid by Pandit Nehru.
Dr. Waleed Rasool, Director of IDDDs, paid rich tribute to the martyrs of 13 July 1931. He remarked:
“Ups and downs are part of every resistance movement. Kashmiris have made unmatched sacrifices for their just cause. Pakistan has consistently supported the Kashmiri struggle — diplomatically, and morally. The defense, sovereignty, and security of Pakistan are in the safe hands of Field Marshal General Asim Munir and the brave soldiers of the Pakistan Army. Kashmiris remain grateful to Pakistan and its vibrant institutions for keeping the Kashmir cause alive at all forums.”
The seminar was also addressed by Prof. Ashraf, Prof. Sultan Mehmood, and other distinguished speakers. In the concluding session, a formal resolution was passed to pay glowing tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir and to reaffirm solidarity with the brave and resilient Kashmiri nation
