Kyiv, July 17 (QNA) – The Ukrainian Parliament today approved the appointment of Yulia Svyrydenko as Prime Minister, succeeding Denys Shmyhal, who stepped down two days earlier.
262 out of 450 MPs voted in favor of Svyrydenko’s appointment as part of the largest government reshuffle Ukraine has seen since the outbreak of its crisis with neighboring Russia in February 2022.
In a speech to Parliament shortly before the vote to confirm Svyrydenko’s appointment, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke of unspecified future agreements with the United States, saying they “will strengthen Ukraine.”
Following the parliament’s approval of the appointment, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen congratulated the new Ukrainian Prime Minister on her appointment, saying, “We strongly support you in your efforts for Ukraine’s survival, your efforts for the recovery of your country, and the future of the European Union.”
Zelenskyy approved the appointment of Svyrydenko, 39, who had served as Minister of Economy and Deputy Prime Minister since November 2021
