New York, July 28 (QNA), His Excellency Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, participated in the plenary session of the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York.
Delivering Qatar’s address, His Excellency stated that the conference comes at a critical time as Gaza suffers one of the most prolonged and devastating wars in recent history. He described the humanitarian crisis as catastrophic, with over two million people—mostly women and children—facing starvation, displacement, and daily bombardment under an enduring blockade.
He strongly condemned the deliberate targeting of civilians, hospitals, and vital infrastructure, and rejected the use of hunger as a weapon of war. He called these acts a grave violation of international humanitarian law and questioned how peace can be achieved amidst such humiliation and human suffering.
His Excellency affirmed that the State of Qatar has made continuous diplomatic efforts to stop the bloodshed, alleviate suffering, and support the release of prisoners. Working jointly with the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United States, Qatar has played a key role in facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid and enabling prisoner exchanges. He stressed that despite setbacks, Qatar remains committed to securing an immediate ceasefire and initiating post-war recovery and reconstruction.
Reiterating Qatar’s unwavering position in support of the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, His Excellency welcomed the recognition of the State of Palestine by several countries. He specifically acknowledged France’s announced plan to officially recognize Palestinian statehood in September as a step toward lasting regional peace and stability.
Qatar also co-chaired the working group on Narratives of Peace, which addressed the importance of rejecting hate speech, promoting coexistence, and fostering dialogue to build mutual understanding.
His Excellency expressed gratitude to President Emmanuel Macron and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for organizing the conference. He concluded by urging the international community to move beyond statements and commit to real, collective action to ensure justice and a peaceful resolution to the Palestinian cause.
