The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has strongly renewed its condemnation of Israel’s ongoing attacks on the Palestinian people, which have continued since October 7, 2023.
In a press statement, Her Excellency Maryam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, Chairperson of the NHRC, described the situation in Gaza as catastrophic, marked by deliberate deprivation of essential rights such as access to food, clean water, healthcare, and shelter. Israeli attacks have directly targeted homes, hospitals, and civilian infrastructure, creating one of the worst humanitarian crises in recent history.
Over 60,000 civilians—mostly women and children—have been killed, and nearly 150,000 injured in the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, more than 7,500 civilians have been wounded in the West Bank due to raids, arrests, and settler violence.
Al-Attiyah voiced alarm over what she called a “starvation policy” by the Israeli occupation, highlighting the deliberate restrictions imposed on humanitarian aid. She noted that severe malnutrition and hunger have reached famine levels, with children dying due to lack of food and medical care.
She urged for an immediate end to attacks on civilians and called for the full lifting of restrictions on relief organizations.
Al-Attiyah praised Qatar’s role in mediating for a lasting ceasefire and responding to the humanitarian needs of the people of Gaza. She called on the international community to act urgently and decisively to stop the unfolding catastrophe.
She warned against the continued international silence, saying it enables genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity to go unpunished. Ignoring such violations, she stressed, undermines the foundations of international law and justice.
In conclusion, the NHRC expressed grave concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and stressed that the ongoing crisis poses a serious threat to the credibility of the international system and human rights institutions.
