Gaza, August 5 – The death toll in Gaza from Israel’s ongoing war has now exceeded 61,000, with 188 deaths due to hunger, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
In the past 24 hours alone, 87 more bodies were brought to hospitals, and 644 people were injured, pushing the total number of wounded since October 2023 to over 150,000.
The ministry confirmed that eight more people died of starvation yesterday, raising the hunger-related death toll to 188, including 94 children. The situation continues to worsen, as 52 more Palestinians were killed and 352 injured while trying to access humanitarian aid in the past day. Since May 27, 1,568 people have been killed and over 11,200 injured while seeking aid.
UNICEF recently warned that children in Gaza are dying at an “unprecedented rate” due to famine and collapsing health services. The World Food Program estimates that one in four Gazans is facing famine-like conditions, while over 100,000 women and children are suffering from acute malnutrition.
Despite a brief truce earlier this year, Israel resumed its offensive on March 18, killing 9,519 more people and injuring 38,630 in renewed strikes.
The war has drawn international legal scrutiny. In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, citing war crimes and crimes against humanity. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to deepen, with food, medical care, and safe access to aid critically limited.
