Moscow, August 7 – The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump will meet in the coming days, following an agreement between both sides. According to Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov, the proposal came from the American side and preparations are now actively underway.
“The two sides have agreed in principle to hold a high-level bilateral meeting. The venue has also been finalized and will be announced shortly,” Ushakov said during a press briefing.
Reports from the US suggest the meeting could take place as early as next week, with The New York Times indicating a possible follow-up trilateral discussion involving Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. However, the Kremlin has downplayed this idea.
Ushakov clarified that the notion of a trilateral meeting was briefly mentioned by a US representative but was not formally discussed. “Russia is currently focused on ensuring the bilateral meeting with President Trump is productive and meaningful. That is our priority,” he emphasized.
Wednesday also saw President Putin meet with Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. Their discussions reportedly covered key issues surrounding Ukraine and the future of Russia-US relations. The Kremlin characterized the exchange as “constructive and useful.”
While the specific agenda for the Putin-Trump meeting remains under wraps, expectations are high that it will address ongoing tensions, regional stability, and strategic cooperation.
Diplomatic sources suggest both leaders are keen to use this opportunity to reset ties and explore common ground, particularly on Ukraine and broader international concerns. Further details, including the exact date and location, are expected to be revealed soon.
