Qatar welcomes declarations by Australia, New Zealand on recognizing State of Palestine

Doha, August 11 (QNA) – The State of Qatar has welcomed the declaration of Australia on the intent to recognize the sisterly State of Palestine, along with the New Zealand declaration that it is mulling the recognition of the State of Palestine.
The State of Qatar termed these two announcements as positive steps that align with international legitimacy and the relevant UN Security Council resolutions, as well as vital support for the legitimate rights of the brotherly Palestinian people to have self-determination and establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Monday affirmed that these decisions are consistent with the consensus reached among the countries participating in the international conference for the peaceful settlement of the question of Palestine and the implementation of the two-state solution, based on a roadmap to increase the recognitions of the Palestinian State.
The ministry reiterated the State of Qatar’s call upon all nations that have yet to recognize the State of Palestine to take similar steps that reflect commitment to international law and back the historic and enduring rights of the Palestinian people on their territories.
