KIEV, Aug. 21 – Russia carried out overnight missile and drone strikes across Ukraine, hitting a U.S. electronics producer in the country’s westernmost Zakarpattya region, Ukrainian officials said Thursday.
Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed that a missile struck a major American manufacturer, causing “serious damage and casualties.” President Volodymyr Zelensky added that the facility, which produces coffee machines and other household items, was among the primary targets of the assault.
According to the State Service for Emergencies, 15 people were injured in the attack, which sparked a massive fire covering 7,000 square meters. Emergency crews worked through the night to contain the blaze and evacuate affected workers.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported the strike was part of a large-scale offensive involving 574 drones and 40 missiles launched at different regions. Air defenses intercepted 546 drones, along with 18 Kh-101 cruise missiles, 12 Kalibr cruise missiles, and one Kinzhal hypersonic missile. Despite the high interception rate, several missiles reached their targets, causing significant destruction.
Kyiv condemned the assault as another deliberate strike on civilian industry and international businesses operating in Ukraine. Officials stressed the attack underscores the ongoing risks faced by foreign companies and the urgent need for enhanced air defense support from international partners.
